Sam Maloof, Woodworker

Sam Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts

Sam Maloof, born in 1916, is America's most widely admired contemporary furniture craftsman. Maloof, entirely self-taught, is one of only a handful of furniture designer-craftsmen to make his livelihood through working full time with his hands. Although his furniture has a sculptural quality and has been exhibited in major museums, he doesn't consider himself an artist, but rather a woodworker, and lets it go at that.

Recognizing and celebrating fine artists and craftsmen who skillfully create timeless treasures with their hands. This is the legacy of master woodworker Sam Maloof and his late wife and partner of fifty years, Alfreda.

The mission of the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts, a 501C3 non-profit organization, is to perpetuate excellence in craftsmanship, encourage artists and make available to the public the treasure house the Maloofs lovingly created.
